As some of you may know, I like to build things. But with the exception of a mandatory intro to woodworking class freshman year where I made a shitty box that looked like a tree stump, I'm mainly self-taught.And instead of wait around for someone to teach me, I take matters into my own hands and teach myself – by starting with simple, yet cool, projects. So with the drill and toolkit I received from my parents on my 25th birthday, I landed on a project to build an industrial-style bench.AAAAAND here's how you can save $400 by building your own bench! (the time you have wasted building it however, you can never get back).

You will need:

You can of course do any other type of leg. Some other cool industrially options are here, here, or here,

How to build an industrial-style bench the insanely easy way:

Step 1:Panic.Step 2: Sand down all of the pieces of wood so they're nice and smooth.Step 3: Line up the wood planks and using the screws, drill the strap ties across the wood so it's holding the planks together. Make sure the wood is perfectly aligned because you can't adjust them once it's drilled. NOTE: make sure the strap ties don't get in the way of where the legs will go.Step 4:Turn your bench over, then attach the hairpin legs with the screws/drill bit they came with.Step 5:STAIN. DAT. SHIT.Step 6: Take a thousand pictures with your bench, because damn it feels good to make something with your own 2 hands. So there you have it. I decided to put my bench on our balcony, but I also had fun with putting it in different spots around the apartment. It's surprisingly sturdy, too. You're welcome,Abby
