Things don't go as planned. That is the plan.

A couple summers ago I felt inspired by the marble trend, so I set out to create marble-pattern coasters made of baking clay.

Roommate bonding time

We spent hours twisting different colored clays together and seeing how they'd turn out, until they weren't really "marble," anymore. Which we were cool with. I feel like there's one for everyone.

The coasters create a dynamic, distorted pattern when used.

Disaster struck

Excited to make more, we bought more baking clay. Except that it wasn't baking clay at all, it was regular clay, so an entire beautiful batch completely melted together when we stuck them in the oven (still not over it). We had a second batch prepared, but we didn't know what to do with it. This cookie sheet with our psychedelic creations made of wet clay sat in our living room for days, mocking us. Then one day I was sitting there looking at them and I had an idea - I took one and slapped it against the wall. Eventually they looked like this:

Our marble coasters weren't really marble, but we had fun and were happy with the results so who really cares? And even though we got the wrong type of clay, it resulted in a whole new idea.In conclusion, sometimes projects don't go according to plan, but that's the best part.Happy mistakes, friends :) Abby
