Moving During a Pandemic! / Modifying Amazon Furniture

DIY

Hey all!It me again! I know I haven't posted in a very long time, but earlier this year I dealt with some career issues that set me back, and I just didn't have the energy to write a post. BUT, I haven't stopped doing interior projects :)Back in May (in the peak of corona - yikes), I moved into a new apartment with my boyfriend, Rom. It's our first time living together, so you know I've been busy imagining what the entire place will look like!First up on the agenda, we really needed a TV stand for Rom's massive TV, that would ideally provide storage so Rom could have a dresser (our bedroom is tiny and my dresser barely fits). We don't love to spend a ton of money on a nice piece of furniture if it's not necessary, and with the pandemic, it was hard to see pieces in person before purchasing. Buying furniture was frustrating, with good reason, but it's also hard when you and the person you live with have different philosophies - although both of us like a good deal, I'm more likely to spend $$$ on something I love, whereas Rom is more about functionality and a cheap price. All of the above are important, though, and so I took this opportunity to find something we both could agree on.We found a dresser on Amazon for $159 that was literally marketed to be for a kid's room or nursery LOL. We didn't love how it looked, BUT, we picked it for its functionality - ie good size, spacious drawers. So I did what I do best and modified the Amazon baby furniture!I got some wood panel-patterned wallpaper from Target and a set of modern dresser pulls from Amazon. Originally, I was going to cover the entire thing in the wood, but when I started with the drawers, I actually preferred only the drawers be covered and the sides be bare, so I left it that way. Once the matte black dresser pulls arrived, they really completed the look. It transformed from a toddler's dresser, to a Brooklyn apartment TV stand.

And here, ladies and gents, is the before and after:
